Teens get Depressed

Did you know most teens suffer from depression? Depression is inextricably linked to the environment and functions of society in one’s childhood. Fredrick Douglas once said “It’s easier to build strong children than to repair a broken man.” If a teen does not receive the proper treatment they will become an adult with depression. It will be a never ending saga. Seeking treatment through therapy is getting to the root of the pain, but sometimes not enough. Youth that are battling with depression, how are they supposed to reach out for mental healthcare? Where is their safe place to heal and grow? According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) 1 out of 5 teens or young adults live with a mental health condition. Meaning their health condition can range from anxiety, panic attack, or depression. It’s important to open up communication and safe space with your teen. Remember teens are an emotional roller coaster they can be happy, sad, overwhelmed, and disappointed all in one hour. At this stage in life they are impulsive, challenging, will shut down and pull away. Though some teens are damaged and easily triggered, they still need reassurance that life is worth living. There is hope in helping teens find their voice to strive to be better. Along with seeking therapy to get mental healthy, teens can also practice meditation and journaling.
